This figure is greatly inspired by the work of Michelangelo, as are many of my other pieces. The figure was developed through study of his work with the intention to carry some degree of the "awesomeness" of Michelangelo's forceful style.
The patterned halo is an original design I developed through study of the principles of Islamic sacred geometry, which can be infinitely repeated to imbue, for example, the walls of sacred architecture, as can be seen in many mosques throughout the world. Here, the pattern serves to articulate the thought and spirit of the figure.
My brother lived for a time in New Zealand, and he gave me a souvenir of a necklace with a small pendant of a bearded figure holding the infinity symbol and had engraved on the back: “The Infinity King offering Friendship.” Though the painting hardly resembles the figure on the pendant, the name ignited my imagination to inspire this painting.
